videos and education

We recently learned how to create and edit a video in our technology class. We assigned each other different parts, created an outline/script. We had it all planned out but than we changed our mind because we realized it would take a much longer time than what we had, so we switched our idea. The video is in the post before this one. My group had fun planning and making the video.
Making a video could be used in the classroom for a variety of things. For example, making a PSA like our class did, or teaching a lesson and than having the kids create a movie of what they learned from the lesson. Also, each child could make a really short video about them at the beginning of the year so you and the other students could learn a little about them. Those are just a couple ideas and there are many more.
Overall, all age groups could make the video, but only certain age groups could actually run the camera to produce the video.

finale presentation

Finale is a great way to teach kids how to write music. I would use this in my classroom to have the kids hear music, possibly based on a certain lesson we were working on. It would also be nice to let the kids play around with it, and let them listen to the different instruments provided by the program.

kidspiration

Amy and Victoria presented the tool KIDSPIRATION. Kidspiration is a tool used to strengthen vocabulary and writing. Also, to help children grow on their math skills by involving images and numbers. It is great for group discussion.

presentations (popplet, story jumper, and wordle)

I feel popplet is very similar to Prezi. You have unlimited space to work with and you can add pictures. Popplet you can add videos and with what I have experienced with Prezi i'm not quite sure you can do that. With Prezi you have a variety of background and font colors to choose from and i'm sure you have the same option with popplet. Prezi you have different ways to enter the subjects you are talking about. For instance you can have it spin in on a different topic but more than likely it will give you motion sickness. For those who have experienced it, you know what I mean. Overall, prezi and popplet are very similar and I would use both of them in my classroom.

Story jumper would be a great tool to use in the classroom. You could have each child write their own book either in school or at home, each child could then present it to the class. Whether it is on a lesson they were just taught or it could be a begining of the year thing where they introduce themselves. The best part is you can get your own copy. I will definately use this in my future classroom

Wordle is very creative, I like how the more important the word is the bigger it gets. This tool is useful in the classroom for things like vocabulary or different lessons that are being taught.

PREZI

Here is the tutorial of the Prezi, watch it and see what you think!
An interesting tool that we have not used in SEDU 183 would be PREZI. This tool is similar to power point. I used this tool in my SPED 210 class, and it was kind of hard to get used to, but, once you got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. The pros of this program are, you have unlimited space to create your prezi, is great for visual interest and grabbing the audience attention. Prezi makes a new, flexible path, a more free flow, creative style, non-linear path to developing and communicating your ideas.
The cons are that it is still in development, so hard to recover from problems during a talk. Very few typefaces, all Prezis will look the same over time. It limits you for redistribution or printing. Some effects on prezi give people motion sickness.

21st century education

This video shows and explains what future education is in canada and hopefully will be in other countries. It comments on how every students books could fit in a nook, or ipad. But, the problem with that is some students may not be able to afford an Ipad. The students do not have to pay for the books now they are just provided by the school. So, what would happen if in the future, the education world would go digital, and only used different types of technology?

issues in education

In schools, bullying occurs in all areas. It can occur in nearly any part in or around the school building, though it more often occurs in classes, recess, hallways, bathrooms, and on the school buses.  There are many types of bullying like physical bullying, emotional bullying, verbal bullying, cyber bullying, and many more.  Bullying is widespread and perhaps the most underreported safety problem on school campuses. Bullying occurs more often at school than on the way to and from there. Kids who have been bullied in the past often turn out to be a bully in the future.  There are many effects of bullying like being depressed, committing suicide, anxiety, always being angry, and a lack in school performance, also, feeling insecure, lack of trust, very sensitive, and wanting revenge.  There are many ways to reduce bullying.  You can encourage positive peer relations, emphasize consequenses of hurting others, and increase adult supervision in hallways.

class activities

We have experienced a lot of different technology sites in SEDU 183.  My favorite was the google docs.  I feel it was very easy to get the hang of.  During our group project we had a group member that was not present during the time we had worked on the project, but do to google docs it aloud us as a group to contribute our thoughts on our topic outside of class.  Also, we could see what everybody posted without going through the complications of e-mailing our paper back and forth to each other.

about me

My name is Brittany Wakley and I am an Early Childhood/ Special Ed. major.  I want to teach kindergarten, when I become a teacher I want my students to feel comfortable in my classroom and around me.  I plan to have my kids decorate my room throughout the year with the different arts and craft lessons that they will learn about.  My class room will be a two way street, not only will I teach them but they will teach me as well.  I want to be a fun and interesting teacher where the kids will always want to come back the next day.
